Gilbert and George

Discover the ladin personalities

Gilbert Prousch and George Passmore are two contemporary artists who work as a duo.
Gilbert was born in San Martino in Badia in 1943, and is Ladin
He attended the Selva in Val Gardena Art School, and continued his studies in Austria at the Hallein School of Art and in Germany at the Munich Academy of Fine arts.
In 1967 he meets George at the St. Martin's School of Art in London.
They are living and working together in London since 1968, and they immediately opposed their own art to the elite’s one.

They call their own house "Art for All".
Their goal is to produce art with high communication impact, which overcomes the traditional barriers and analyses in depth the human condition. They are interested in covering every type of human experience: fear, obsession, emotion, by facing strong themes like religion, politics, and racial difference. They analise also themselves for these studies, calling their beings "Living Sculptures", supporting the idea that artists should experience personally the field of what they produce.

Their works have been imposing themselves around the world, as evidenced by some of their most important venues:

MOMA of New York
The Art Museum in Shanghai
Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris
Modern Art Museum in Lugano
White Cube in London
Kunsthalle Bern
Biennale in Florence and Venice
MAMbo in Bologna
